Babe Ruth Biography – Life and Death

Born to German-American parents in a neighborhood in Baltimore, Maryland, George Herman “Babe” Ruth, Jr. was quoted as saying he had a rough childhood. Twelve years of the Babe Ruth biography took place in St. Mary’s Industrial School for Boys, where a missionary became his mentor and baseball trainer. In 1913, 18-year-old Babe Ruth was discovered by Washington Senators pitcher Joe Engel in a game between St. Mary’s Industrial School and Mount St. Mary’s University. He worked with Ruth’s mentor, Brother Matthias Boutlier, to get Ruth signed on to the Baltimore Orioles, then a minor league team. His major league career began in July 1914, as a starting pitcher for the Boston Red Sox. He took the team to the World Series and became famous as a hitter before he was sold in 1919 to the New York Yankees. His career declined by the time he was playing for the Boston Braves, an infamous turn in the Babe Ruth biography. He retired as a player in 1935 and endured various illnesses, finally succumbing to pneumonia in 1948.

He would win the championship for the Yankees two years later, meeting the Giants on the field again. The 1932 series was a momentous part of the Babe Ruth World Series history, when he shot a home run to the center field after pointing to that part of the ball park at the at-bat portion of the game. This year the Yankees won against the Chicago Cubs, marking the last year that Ruth would participate in the World Series.
